This is a bracelet from one of most renowned metalworkers of the 20th century.
This is a very rare GAY FRÉRES `The Bonklip` also known as `bamboo` that is at the most common bracelet that was made for Rolex in the 1930-40s.
They were fitted as standard to many Rolex models in the 1930s, 40s, including the Rolex Oyster, the Rolex Perpetual and the Rolex Imperial.
Gay Fréres became the world most famous producers of watch bracelets. The company made different types of jewellery. During the early 1930s Gay Fréres designed the links for Rolex. The similarity between the Oysterlink that Rolex patented in 1947 and the early Gay Fréres links is astounding - Please see pictures.
There is and engraving "G" and "F" and in between them the bust of a ram. With time, the lines have softened, the engravings likely will have become less visible.
The main reason that the bracelet is much longer in diameter is because it was also designed for military use like a `Bonklip` so the watch can be worn around the jacket sleeve if necessary.
Just like a `Bonklip`, the strap can be adjusted to any length, from very small up to a maximum 23.5 cm (9.25 inches) plus the width of the watch.
This Gay Fréres bracelet can be fitted to a watch with fixed lugs as well.
