This is a slim and elegant Rolex dress watch for dinner party and to be proud to own this special timepiece, from the time when the manufacturer had built a reputation for luxury watches.
The Rolex Precision line remains overlooked today but offers some gems like this rare reference 9659.
This is not a typical Rolex – from any period – and I am proud to be able to offer it for exactly that reason.
The "Precision" branding found on this dial, and others like it, refers to a manually-wound Rolex caliber powering the watch.
For Rolex, most of the words you see on the dial translate directly to specific information about the watch.
On the surface of the dial is a beautiful sunburst finish and a rich and even champagne patina, which add a layer of dimension to the watch. The applied hour markers and logo show an acute attention to detail, with its 18k yellow gold case and a snap-on case back.
Beyond the unique qualities of the Precision model line within the Rolex catalog, the ref. 9659, and this example in particular, further set itself apart due to its case shape.The thin, stick style, and downturned lugs are uncommon to see from Rolex, who more commonly prefers to use a larger angled lug even on Precision dress watches.All this doesn't even touch on the outstanding condition of that champagne dial with golden applied hour markers and matching hands.
This example has remained in beautiful condition with sharp edges on all four lugs.
On the back case there is an engraving that can be polished away by your watchmaker. The Rolex crown and the case serial number from the manufacturer 1627713 is still visible.
These engravings were done very lightly from the manufacturer.
On the upper right and lower left lug shows the deep 18K Gold Hallmarks and inside the back case including the Rolex Hallmarks.

This beautiful Rolex watch is in overall in very nice condition. The case is strong with some light scratches.
The thin, straight lugs are in crisp condition.
The case back is engraved with a dedication dating back to 1968 with a Rolex coronet and the case serial number, both of which are still lightly visible. The case back has some light scratches, two light horizontal scratches on the right side that can be polished away by your watchmaker.
The dial is in excellent condition with an even and very beautiful patina throughout. The hour markers and hands are in great condition and have developed light patina. The dial, hour markers, and hands all shimmer in the light when viewing the watch from different angles.
The dial, crown, inside case back, and movement are all signed. The inside case back has the reference number engraved 9659. Please see image #10.
